WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR YOGA CLASS?

Whether you’re starting out or building on your past experience, yoga is a progressive journey that can be enjoyed lifelong.

There are many different forms of yoga and it can be a fun journey discovering them. Some will challenge you physically and others mentally, but it will certainly bring or retain health and happiness into your life.

We’ve selected some of the most popular forms of yoga, so you can get an indication of what they are about and what attire is best suited.

HOT YOGA

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Hot Yoga is performed in a studio that is heated to 40°C and has a humidity of 40%. The formal name for hot yoga is "Bikram Yoga."

Bikram Yoga requires lengthy, well-controlled contractions of all major muscle groups. The demanding nature of the 26 poses and the heat are designed to raise your heart rate and tire your muscles. Known as a detoxifying yoga as heavy sweating is said to help flush toxins out of the skin, the heat also allows you to go a little deeper and safer into postures as you warm up the muscles.

We have all the essentials to keep you cool and concentrated on the mat with our eco thermo-regulating yoga clothing collection.

VINYASA

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Vinyasa is a style of yoga that strings postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. Commonly referred to as “flow” yoga. Vinyasa classes offer a variety of postures and no two classes are ever alike.

The nature of Vinyasa Yoga helps to develop a more balanced body as well as prevent repetitive motion injuries that can happen if you are always doing the same thing every day.

IYENGAR

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The unique style of Iyengar is the intense focus on the subtleties of each posture. In a typical Iyengar class, poses are held much longer than in other schools of yoga to pay closer attention to the precise musculoskeletal alignment within each pose.

Iyengar also incorporates the use of props, such as blocks, belts, bolsters, chairs and blankets, which are used to accommodate injuries, tightness or structural imbalances, as well as teach the student how to move into a posture properly.
